Me 163은 인류 최초로 시속 1,000km를 돌파한 유일한 실전 로켓 전투기였으나, 맹독성·폭발성 액체 연료 때문에 조종사들이 수없이 목숨을 잃은 위험한 기체였습니다. 이 기체는 1945년 5월 영국군이 독일에서 노획해 영국 본토로 보내졌고, 폭발 위험 때문에 로켓 엔진을 켜는 대신 폭격기에 매달려 올라간 뒤 공중에서 분리되어 무동력 활공으로만 비행 특성을 테스트했습니다. 특히 전설적인 영국 시험비행 조종사 에릭 브라운 대위가 직접 탑승해 테스트한 기체로 유명합니다. 현재 영국 런던 과학박물관에 실물이 있습니다.
